As promised, here is the other scanlation that I did for Hetalia, this one being the
Bloody Sunday incident in 1905. Seriously, with a history like that, it's hard to blame Russia for going completely insane. (I have my theories/opinions about Russia, but...that'll come later)
Translations by me, comic taken from the site. Enjoy!

Also, this is one of the strips that solidified my love for the Russia/Lithuania pairing XD;

(There may be misspellings done in the translation here--I mainly put the Japanese spellings into wiki, get an article and jump back to English when it looks weird, but it doesn't work all the time.)
Northern Italy - Feliciano Vargas,
Southern Italy - Lovino Vargas ('Romano' is his 'country nickname', to seperate the north and south without hassle in canon. IIRC N-Italy's nickname is Veneziano. It stuck.)
France - Francis Bonnefoy,
Russia - Ivan Braginsky
Austria - Roderich Edelstein
Hungary - Elizabetha Héderváry
Spain - Antonio Fernandez Cariado
Switzerland - Bash Zwingli (I'm pretty sure it's not spelled 'Bash'...)
Poland - Felix Łukasiewicz
Lithuania - Toris Lorinaitis
Latvia - Raivis Galante
Estonia - Eduard Fonvock (I TRIED)
Korea - Im Yonsu?
Turkey - Sadiq Adnan
Greece - Heracles Karpusi
Sweden - Berwald...er, Oxsensshelna?
Finland - Tino Vainameissen? Vainamaisen?
Prussia - Gilbert Beilschmidt
Canada - Matthew Williams
BTW, perhaps カークランド would be closer to Kirkland than Clarkland? Fandom also uses it, if that means anything.
Omake : Sealand - Peter [insert England's surname here]

That said... w-wow. I'm not exactly sure on characterization here X'D Being the history nerd I am, it's... how to put it. Russia (the country) was totally not right under the Tsars, that was the reason for Oktober 1905's Revolution. Why is Russia (the character) acting as if this was an unfair, unprompted riot?
July 3 2008, 11:08:21 UTC 3 years ago
Well...Russia (the character) is, in a word, batshit. Or rather, at this point he was probably just unstable. I think one reason why he's acting as though this was an unfair riot was because these nation-characters are representatives of not only their population but also the government of it (their "bosses" are the leaders/government of said land. So UK's would be the Queen as well as the Parliament).
Therefore, he might very well think that he is in the right for the way he was conducting the lands and that he followed his boss' orders. Russia (the character) is like a child, as the artist says--so one way to interpret this is that Russia is like a child who wants really bad to please his superiors and follows the rules that his superiors give him but end up having the entire class hate him. That sort of thing?

I just have to say quickly, that Ivan is a complete psycho. At that time under the rule of the Tsar the Russian peoples suffering was ridiculous, people had literally NO civil rights whatsoever, you so much as ask where your money is going or for less workhours and you're sacked--not great when your poor as hell. I'm not even going into the secrect police--have something to say about the Tsar?? (or any russian rule O.o)--better look forward to a knock on your door at night time.
While the Tsar and his family were living the life of luxury the peasants had no power, barely any money or food, there was famine, inflation, leading up to the second revolution there were even cases of people eating their babies and eachother, and they're still rumours about russian roulette being played by Russian Soilders forced into needless wars that were ravishing an already crumbling economy. The Tsar refused to properly revise the crazilly unstable system in Russia despite the suffering of thousands of people because he believed in 'tradition' and didn't want to change anything, and besides he was ordained by God so whatever he said went.
The way the comic portrayed the protest is a liitle off kilter, that was a PEACEFUL march, with men women and children, lead by a priest, everyone still believed and loved the Tsar despite the ridiculous conditions they endured and they approached the palace with a simple petition stating their grieveances and with full respect and reverence to the Tsar stating that they don't blame him, and they were shot at!!! O.O
A good view of Russia's conditions at the time: http://www.ssdec.nsw.edu.au/history/rom
A good movie! Watch it:

Russia seems to have a very dark history, my favourite story covering what was happening during Ivan's time would be this one, read the novel though, very short, very good:

Starlin is a good contender for terrible dictator as far as dictator's go? I feel sorry for Germany but I feel bad for Russia too.
