[Scanlation] Main Chapter 4 : Pact of Steel

After many delays and strange happenings that I sincerely must apologize for, both to people waiting for it and other people wanting to translate it themselves, the main chapters are here again. Brought to you by [info]konkira (editor) and [info]equivalent_t (translator), lo and behold, I present,

Note : Although the original says "Steel Agreement", a quick googling of Germany-Italy deals from that era says "Pact of Steel". I went with google.

Author's note : After Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin finished their conference at Yalta, they went on a sightseeing flight to the Black Sea.

No sooner than they'd taken off, a devil jumped onto the airplane's wing and started to destroy the engine. Churchill kept his cool and began to negotiate.

"Sir, if you'll stop that, I'll give you a seat in the House of Lords."

The devil, however, refused to listen. A few minutes later, Roosevelt said to the devil,

"Hey, you, yes, you. If you'll stop, I'll give you as much Californian farmland and new Packard cars as you want."

But the devil continued to destroy the engines. At this point, Stalin gently shouted,

"Hey, you fuckwad, if you don't stop that right now I'll throw you into the kolkhoz!"

At the moment the devil heard those words, it flew away, never to be seen again.

From the kolkhoz that even the devil fears.

Author's note : Lithuania and the Happy Three Baltic States
Although Lithuania used to be a big country with Poland, Russia did its best to break that apart--->Lithuania is 'recruited'.
Afterwards, poor Lithuania's plight was to be beaten up by Russia day after day.
By the way, Lithuania-kun likes martial arts.
He's also the (relatively) most cheerful among the Baltic states.

Author's note : The Pact of Steel. A treaty exchanged between Germany and Italy to help each other out if each is ever in a bind. This pact will change the two Italy's immeasurably in the future.
Truth be told, I find writing this to be more embarrassing than drawing naked people.

Author's note : Italians have been an inconsistent people since forever. *laughs* The North and the South never really got on all that well, but if you ask,

"Is there a strength difference because of the regions?"
In the First World War, Italian soldiers were conscripted from all parts of the country and distributed evenly among the army, but after WWI, they started making the units regional.

Still, THE USELESSNESS NEVER CHANGED.

They really are hetare! XD

The pendant, by the way, is the cross of the Teutonic Knights.

Author's note : Although Poland and Lithuania used to be one country, Lithuania was pretty much in the lackey position. He was confounded by Poland's many whims, apparently, like "Speak Polish!" or "Live like me!".

Author's note : Though Poland has the image of 'the poor abused country stuck between Russia and Germany' he actually has been destroyed many times and yet still rose back like a phoenix. In other words, he seems to actually be a tough, strong country.

Surprisingly, there were times when he'd won against Russia and Germany. The time he was with Lithuania was his golden age, where he and Lithuania the Lackey conquered and expanded across Eastern Europe.

Also, this is pointless, but I based Poland's accent on Nagoya schoolgirls (In English this would be Valley Girl -trans.)

Author's note : Russia actually had traumatic memories of Poland and letters before. In one of their wars, he grew to distrust his allies thanks to Poland's fake letters and caused massive unrest in the ranks, at which point Poland swooped in and took Moscow.

These earlier Hetalia comics are THE BEST. So many nods to historical accuracy -- love Finland hanging with Germany and how Finland and Lithuania aren't just wibbly characters AND THE BACK OF HITLER'S HEAD OH GOD.

The back of Hitler's head somehow turned out to be such a funny thing, though I have no idea why! Because it looks so normal but so sinister?

I love how Lithuania started out sort of repressed passive-aggressive, too. XD

Oh how I loved the earlier Hetalia comics ♥ so much historical lulz to be had.

Germany being ticked off at his "boss"'s absurd orders makes me so incredibly happy you wouldn't damn believe it. I think I love him even more now (as well as the author for mentioning the crazy Holy Grail search, wtf. <3)

OH RUSSIA. You keep right on sending those chain letters, you giant scary thing, you.

Also, Poland's heartfelt parting words to Lithuania. I died a little. XD

Thank you so much for the translations!!!! "I won, Russia's the strongest" made me love Russia even more already!! Gosh, I love Russia and Germany so much. Also, Russia being worried for his wardrobe, Germany taking revenge for the sausage comment of Italy, jajajajaj they are so cute!!!
And the Teutonic cross!!! Prussia!!!! So much love!!!

Mais non! The comic's referring to the German-Soviet Non-Agression Pact, which lasted all of two years before Hitler said "LOL JUST KIDDING."

...Germany and Russia have a very complicated relationship. >__>;

Poland and Liet's backstory yesssssssssssss.♥ A-Although, I must admit that I'm really disillusioned about that friendship after seeing Poland's reaction to Liet being dragged away by Russia... "OhMyGod Your face looks so funny right now!" ;_; N-Not nice, Feliks. ;_;

That was kind of the point, yes. It gets clearer in Chapter 5, though I'm thinking to put that one off for a while yet just to see what Hidekaz eventually does with it.

I also can't believe that. Feliks is just too much of an idiot to be capable of such a thing as friendship.
Someone has to tell Hidekaz about the whole thing with Wilno region (to put it short Poland annexed a big part of Lithuania's territory, including the capital, some of the older Lithuanians hate us to this day for that). One could mention also Lithuania's stand during the Polish-Soviet war in 1920 (friendly neutrality towards Russia [allowed to move troops through lithuanian territory freely]) as a proof of how Lithuania didn't have any sentiment for Poland back then.
But then, I guess trying to convince the author to drop that friendship wouldn't meet approval of a certain group of the fans...
